Project: Engineering capacities
Location: Republic of Tatarstan
Year: 2020
Duration: 3 days
Technology: DEEP INJECTION & SLAB LIFTING
Stabilization of the foundations of wastewater treatment plant elements after unsuccessful cementation
Problem
Weak waterways and an unsuccessful stabilization attempt
Solution
Reinforcement of soils at the base of slab foundations
Problem
Issue to be resolved:
Strengthening the foundation soils under the tanks of treatment facilities. Aggravating conditions: weak waterlogged soils and an unsuccessful attempt at stabilisation by cementation.

Initial data
At the treatment facilities built in 2019, belonging to a processing complex, settlement of the slab foundations began. Given that separate foundations were poured under different tanks and vessels, and the loads differed, the settlements ranged from 3 to 15 centimetres. There was concern about the high risk of damage to the utilities passing under the floor slab, especially the pipelines connecting the treatment facility tanks. Initially, soil stabilisation was attempted by cementation, and after that failure, they turned to URETEK.

Goal
Strengthen the soils beneath the slab foundations, stop the movement of the slab foundations under the tanks.
The project in detail
Technology applied
The problem was solved by the URETEK DEEP INJECTION method, which includes measures to level and stabilise foundation settlement by strengthening and consolidating the soil in the foundation, increasing its strength characteristics by injecting a polymer composition.
Solution
Injections were carried out in two stages: the first stage – installation of a geo‑curtain around each individual slab foundation, then injection of the geopolymer mixture at three levels. This made it possible to efficiently and with high accuracy use the calculated volume of material to stabilise the slabs. The second stage – compaction and lifting of the foundation slab with a tolerance of no more than 5 mm.

Result
The work area was constantly monitored using a laser level during the injections, which showed a lift of the structures from 2 to 5 mm. After the work was completed, repeated dynamic probing of the foundation was carried out, which made it possible to assess the improvement in the mechanical parameters of the soil in the injection zone. The strengthening of the foundation soils lasted 3 working days.
