Technology: DEEP INJECTION
Strengthening the foundation and base of a loaded elevator with partial alignment
Problem
The design position of the foundation slab has changed
Solution
Foundation reinforcement and partial lifting of the structure
Problem
During operation of the grain elevator at full load, a change in the design position of the foundation slab was recorded. Geodetic monitoring confirmed a tilt with rotation of the entire grain storage structure. The grain elevator (grain storage) has a volume of 16,500 tonnes and is installed on a monolithic foundation slab 700 mm thick.

Task
Strengthen the foundation soils and demonstrate lifting of the foundation slab by up to 5 mm.
Solution
Before starting the foundation strengthening work, a set of geodetic monitoring was carried out to accurately determine the settlement vector of the tank, and loosened horizons of the foundation soil were also identified using dynamic probing. To solve the task, the deep injection method – Deep Injection – was chosen. All work was carried out from the surface of the foundation slab, with injections performed at a right angle. The injection of the self‑expanding composition (in plan) was carried out from the slab perimeter towards the centre. The result of the work was the lifting of the foundation slab at the point of greatest tilt by 8 mm. All work on lifting and levelling the structure was carried out under constant supervision of the surveying service.
