Project: Private residential building (house and garage)
Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
Year: 2011
Duration: 11 days
Technology: DEEP INJECTION & SLAB LIFTING
Elimination of the consequences of seismic activity and restoration work
Problem
Uneven settlement and tilt of buildings
Solution
Lifting and leveling structures
Problem
The earthquake caused uneven settlement ranging from 10 to 42 mm in various areas of a residential house and garage in Christchurch, which needed to be re‑levelled so that the residents could live safely in the house.

Goals
The house, with an area of 136 m², and the adjacent garage, with an area of 60 m², needed to be re‑levelled. To organise the work, Uretek required the appropriate permits. After the earthquake in Christchurch, soft silt was present on the site. Timely coordination between the homeowner, the insurance company and the consulting engineer was a critical requirement. The goal was to re‑level the house and the adjacent garage.
The project in detail
Technology applied:
Uretek Deep Injection (UDI) was the appropriate method to provide the necessary bearing capacity under the 13 “sockets” supporting the house. Uretek also used Uretek Slab Lifting (USL) technology to re‑level different parts of the house and garage. The repair and restoration work carried out by Uretek was completed within 11 days.
Solution
The buildings were re‑levelled within a tolerance of 1.5 mm, and the homeowner was able to return to the house. Faced with the choice of demolishing the house or carrying out a “lengthy” reconstruction, the homeowner concluded that engaging Uretek was a more cost‑effective and time‑saving solution to remedy the earthquake damage.
