The house was built between 1981 and 1982. It is constructed on a strip foundation, and the building itself is located on a natural slope. During construction, all organic materials were excavated, and the foundation was levelled by filling sand into the lower parts of the slope, as well as replacing soil from the upper to the lower level. After the foundation pouring was completed, a heavy rain weakened and washed out the compacted sand from under the foundation. The sand was simply shoveled back without proper compaction. The uncompacted soil caused cracks in the walls and settlement of up to 87 mm.
Goals
Compact the loose sand and prevent future settlement with minimal disruption to the life of the family living in the house. The clients wanted to live in the house throughout the entire process.
