Problem
Task to be solved:
Carry out repair work at maximum speed and without stopping traffic on a defective section of the runway at a national airport.

Initial data:
At a national airport, a defect appeared on one of the runway slabs in the form of slab settlement and a longitudinal crack. The difference in surface level between this slab and the adjacent ones ranged from 14 to 17 mm, which created difficulties for aircraft moving at optimal speed. Preliminary probing of the soil in this area revealed local loosening under the settled slab in the zone of the crack. In this regard, to ensure the necessary bearing capacity of the foundation and to level the surface of the defective slab with the adjacent ones, it was necessary to compact the soil and fill the gap under the slab by injecting URETEK polymer solution.

Goal:
Ensure continuous operation of the airport runway by carrying out repair work on the defective section in an operational manner.
The project in detail
Technologies applied:
To solve the task, the Slab Lifting technology was used, which involves injecting a special expanding composition directly under the runway slab through small‑diameter holes drilled in it.
Solution
The expanding geopolymer between the soil and the slab, as its volume increased, created the necessary lifting force to level the runway slab and, by penetrating into the gap under the slab, filled it and compacted the underlying soil while sealing micro‑damage.

Result:
Using the URETEK method, the task was solved in the shortest possible time without stopping the reception or movement of aircraft.
