Project: The completed part of the industrial building
Location: Smolensk region
Year: 2016
Duration: 4 days
Technology: DEEP INJECTION
Reinforcement of waterlogged soils at the base of a shallow foundation with excessive precipitation
Problem
Uneven foundation settlement with cracking
Solution
Soil reinforcement at the foundation base
Problem
Initial data:
In the area of the completed extension of the raw material processing zone at a food factory, uneven settlement of shallow concrete strip foundations began to develop, with cracks opening at the junction between the main building and the extension. The crack opening width was up to 1.5 cm. The survey revealed that there were lenses of weak and waterlogged soils in the foundation base.

Goal:
Strengthen the soils in the foundation base of the industrial building to eliminate the consequences of the deformations that have occurred in the structures.
The project in detail
Technology applied:
The problem was solved by the DEEP INJECTION method using URETEK technology, which includes measures to level and stabilise foundation settlement by strengthening and consolidating the soil in the foundation, increasing its strength and deformation characteristics by injecting URETEK polymer composition. Injections were carried out in two stages: Stage 1 – filling voids with polymer mixture and compacting the soil directly under the foundation; Stage 2 – compacting and consolidating the soil by injecting at different depth levels, improving the geomechanical characteristics.
Solution
The result of the injection was verified by laser monitoring during the injections and by dynamic probing tests after the foundation strengthening, which made it possible to assess the improvement in the mechanical parameters of the soil in the injection zone. The effectiveness of the foundation strengthening was demonstrated by the vertical lift of the structures by an average of 2 mm.
